Longreach Regional Council have joined with Queensland College of Art, Griffith University and the community to create a colourful masterpiece on the Old Thomson River Bridge in Longreach.
‘River Reflections’ is a new artwork at Longreach which incorporates botanical and other details collected from our recent community workshop. Working together to listen and share stories with each other, local participants and visual art students have created a design that reflects the area and anticipates its future use as a destination for tourists to take photos, and a popular location that provides access across the river. This mural visually enhances and contributes to way finding and connectivity. Painted in a range of natural colours, this artwork reflects a local palette and is a bright and colourful addition to the area.
“The Thomson river mural project was an invaluable experience that allowed me to achieve real world outcomes doing something I love, while also having the privilege to connect with the people and the community of Longreach.”
