Sunshine Energy, 2026
Wavell State High School comissioned a large-scale mural to be co-created with students and installed onsite. Queensland College of Art and Design (QCAD) LiveArt students worked with secondary students to create artwork designs, to build capacity and develop new skills installing the artwork safely and to a professional finish.
Sunshine Energy is a mural for the covered walkway at Wavell State High School, developed from a student workshop held on 18 August 2026. Students asked for brighter colours and more energy, offering the words Happy, Sunshine, Playful, Energy, Bang and Pop Culture. Their preferred yellows, oranges, purples and greens appear throughout, balanced with the surrounding school grounds. Leaf-like forms and a large golden sun shape wrap around the brick, connecting to natural growth, renewable energy, and the importance of natural light and outdoor activity for wellbeing and mental health. It is a landmark shaped by the students’ own voices.
