Queensland College of Art and Design and Students from Mitchelton State High School have recently worked together to develop a new mural contributing to an inclusive and welcoming space. Students discussed different values that they felt were important when developing the artwork design for the new mural. These included key words, colours, and simple image making. Using abstracted image details and stylised marks as the central design elements for this work captures the enthusiasm of the group in gestural and calligraphic forms.
This artwork design, Kick Back is a celebration of the power of colour, abstract mark making, and creative play. By overlapping individual elements from the collaborative workshop, this design represents a collaboration between secondary and tertiary visual art and design students. Through enlarged hand drawn marks and and the language of emojis, this artwork design captures a welcoming and friendly sense of community. This painted work is a welcome invitation to all students and staff.
The colours include blues, pinks, and yellow and to reflect and compliment the school colours. Mitchelton State High School students worked with QCAD LiveArt to install the design, learning new skills while installing this new artwork addition to the Tuckshop eating area.
