At Queensland College of Art & Design, Griffith University, QCAD LiveArt represents an innovative Work Integrated Learning (WIL) model that addresses critical gaps in preparing visual arts students for entrepreneurial and portfolio careers.
Operating as a commercial studio, students respond to genuine industry briefs and create real-world projects through authentic professional contexts. This comprehensive approach combines community engagement workshops, collaborative design development, and hands-on installation experiences, including large-scale mural projects.
Students develop essential industry skills including creative responses to project briefs, proposal preparation and presentation abilities, project and budget management, and specialist installation techniques. Grounded in three pedagogical principles—authentic learning experiences, collaborative partnerships, and inclusive practice—the program creates meaningful connections between academic study and professional practice while fostering the entrepreneurial skills essential for contemporary visual arts careers.
